I was recently in Birmingham, England for work which is in itself not that exciting of a place to be, but the upside of it is that I was close to a BrewDog pub. For those that don't know, BrewDog is a Scottish brewery that popped up in the craft beer scene in 2007. While the United Kingdom is more known for lagers, ciders, pilsners, etc. BrewDog delivers a wide range of beers more aligned with the stylings of craft beers we're familiar with in America. I probably tried ten different styles of BrewDog beers over the week I was in the UK and every single one of them was fantastic. The point of this post though is to shed light on one of the best beers I've ever had. BrewDog Birmingham was pouring their delicious Oatmeal Milk Stout, Jet Black Heart, on Nitro that night. The beer was smooth, thick, rich, and the chocolate and espresso flavors were absolutely perfect. It kills me that I can't find bottles of this anywhere at home, and it's certainly not pouring anywhere on Nitro. I suppose all I can hope for is getting back there one day... ...OR maybe their new base out of Ohio will start the process of bringing this magic to America. As the BrewDog story has grown, so has their global interest, and given the craft beer scene in America, it was only a matter of time. To learn more about that, check out this over on their site.
